Naked Island
A panoramic immersive development project that reweaves layers of memory, dreams, and sensation.
Naked Island approaches landscape not as a simple background, but as a structure where time, memory, emotion, and embodied experience overlap.
Drawing from East Asian shan shui (mountain-water) painting, traditional handscroll format, and panoramic imagery, this project expands landscape into an immersive spatial environment. Open to both XR and dome-based formats, it invites the body to move through the landscape, not around it.

Why Landscape
Landscape is not objective nature itself.
It is something formed through the ways humans sense, remember, and imagine the world.
For animals, a forest is an environment for survival.
For humans, it becomes a landscape infused with emotion, memory, loss, and desire.
Naked Island begins with this question:
What does a landscape created by the human gaze reveal, and what does it conceal?
Rather than representing landscape, this work rearranges within a single island affective layers of nature and civilization, consciousness and the unconscious.
The Moving Vision – A Ritual Passage
The formal reference for this project comes from East Asian shan shui painting.
Unlike a fixed single-point perspective, shan shui does not remain in one viewpoint.
The gaze moves through the image, allowing space and time to be experienced together.
This pictorial structure is deeply connected to panorama.
Instead of looking at a single frame, the viewer moves through the landscape as if unfolding a scroll, passing through different scenes and temporal layers.
Naked Island is a project that translates this pictorial structure into immersive formats such as XR and dome-based installation.
Time Labyrinth
This island is composed of landscapes across the four seasons.
Spring, summer, autumn, and winter are not merely natural changes, but layers of a life being lived and rhythms of emotion.
Yet time here does not move in a straight line.
The end leads back to the beginning, and repetition always returns with different traces and sensations.
In this work, time is not linear progression but a non-linear cyclical structure shaped by repetition and variation.
Rather than following a plot, the viewer wanders through the island at their own pace, crossing layers of scene, rhythm, and sensation.
Day and Night / Activated Landscape
The island is doubled into day and night, sharing the same structure.
If day is the visible surface of the world, night is the psychological landscape submerged beneath it.
By day, the landscape reveals layers of consciousness through life, light, and season.
By night, deeper currents of the unconscious emerge through anxiety and impulse.
The interaction in this work is not based on control, but on the awakening of the landscape through the viewer’s presence.
As the viewer approaches certain characters, monologues and animations are activated, opening the fable hidden within each figure.
Sound is a key layer of this experience.
Rain, wind, water, insects, and distant traces of life reveal season, distance, direction, and atmosphere, guiding the viewer into other layers of the landscape.
Why Immersive Form / Collaboration & Circulation
The core of Naked Island is not simply to observe a landscape, but to move through its layers of time and affect with the body.
Immersive form transforms this project from a panoramic image into a ritualized spatial experience.
The viewer chooses where to linger and whom to approach, opening hidden layers of the landscape at their own rhythm.
The project can expand into both a dome-based installation that amplifies the scale of landscape, and a more intimate, interactive VR format.
Because it relies less on language and more on image and affect, the project can adapt flexibly to diverse exhibition contexts and international circulation.
